Lack of Electricity It was 3:00am when I awoke from my drifted mindset that had been consumed by the dream I was having. I sat up reluctantly, for I had wanted to continue my sleep, rubbing my eyes with the stinging realization that I probably would not be able to fall back asleep right away. Getting up from my bed, I listlessly stalked towards the switch to false daylight- it did not turn on. Trying again several times, there was still no light or spark of a reaction from the light switch. I felt my way around in the dark, finding my seated place before my beforehand daily access to those not truly around me, feeling around I clicked the button to start the machine- silence in the darkness continued.
A grin crossed my face upon the conclusion that there must be a power outage, this is lucky (not at all sarcastic) for me. I hate the neediness people have towards using objects that make life a breeze and no longer something to be worked towards an
The Fall: VV
For what was an inconceivable amount of time—
a girl simply listened to a man’s sonnets and rhymes
While carving her daydreams and wishes
into cooled sand; she never claimed to be his Mrs.
She lay on her side, her dress lightly salted, with hair tangled
by a soft ocean breeze. On her neck a silver key dangled.
She reached with her artist arm holding a needle to the sand
drawing first the famed crooked smile then a hand
she wanted to hold her own
especially while she waited alone.
Rolling her weight towards the grain canvas she drew
an arm, partners for both, torso and then she knew
To draw the face
her heart can not replace.
Disregarding the need for her work to be able to walk away
she did not give him legs so that he must stay.
Putting the needle in the ground
she lay admiring her creation without a sound.
The lines torn into sand lifted
as a hand that covered hers was slowly colored in; she felt gifted.
Colors poured between the spaces of line
